do you know where jingjia road got its name from? here's the story. at the end of the northern song dynasty (960-1127 a.d.), zhao gou –- the future emperor gaozong (1127-1162 a.d. on the throne) of the southern song dynasty (1127-1279 a.d.) –- fled to a village of ningbo when escaping from the jin troops trying to arrest him. at first, zhao was hidden in a dry well. however, as the village was soon sealed by the jin troops, the villagers had to build a wooden bridge over a small river to help zhao run away. later, zhao was crowned the emperor. due to his narrow escape, he named the life-saving village “jingjia village”, literally meaning “the village where the emperor was terrified but saved”, and the road leading to the village “jingjia road”. modern jingjia road marks the most well-known food street in ningbo and is especially popular in the evening. instead of old-fashioned outdoor stalls, the street features brands and stores where you may savor seafood such as lobster, as well as hot pot, northeastern chinese cuisine and a wide variety of dishes. in jingjia road, popular restaurants line the street, attracting a lot of “foodies” seeking out their next feast. want to learn more about ningbo's fascinating history? just leave your comment below.
