ningbo fun facts 101·roads episode 2 yingfeng street -pg电子游戏麻将胡了
there is a street in downtown ningbo named after the inscription artwork of an emperor. in 1103 (the second year of chongning period), the empress of emperor huizong (1082-1135 a.d.) of the northern song dynasty (960-1127 a.d.) suffered serious illness so the emperor sought a cure. it was zang lizhong — a famous doctor residing in ningbo — who came to the rescue and finally healed the empress. to honor zang's contribution, huizong issued “zhao” — a royal decree — to build a house and a standing stone archway for him in ningbo. the chinese character of “yun” (meaning allow) in this written decree resembles the tail of “feng” (meaning phoenix), and the written decree was thus called the decree of phoenix — “feng zhao”. this street where the archway is located began to be recognized as “yingfeng” street, commemorating its history of welcoming the royal decree.
yingfeng street is located downtown close to drum tower and tianyi square, yet it remains a tranquil space amongst the urban bustle. on both sides of the street ahead of the crossroads, the scattering game stores were once paradise for young people. nowadays, the old street has been transformed, with popular delicacies from all over china, including cafes, hangzhou marinated pork intestines, longjiang pork knuckle with rice and xiang-style teppanyaki (with very hot taste from hu'nan province) — to name but a few. all these make the tranquil old street an instagram-worthy location to visit!
